This morning, more than 1,000 immigrants from over 100 countries were officially made U.S. citizens on the Magic Kingdom's Main Street U.S.A., in a special 4th of July weekend ceremony jointly hosted by Disney Parks and Resorts and United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

USCIS Acting Deputy Director Michael Aytes and Walt Disney World Resort President Meg Crofton welcomed the inductees and their families in front of Cinderella Castle. Actor Andy Garcia, himself a naturalized citizen from Cuba, delivered a keynote address. U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Brenda Langdon of Colombia led the Pledge of Allegiance, and also became a citizen herself during the ceremony.

The mass naturalization celebration was "tweeted" on the brand new official DisneyParks Twitter feed, including, nearly live, the congratulatory message: "Oath complete, welcome new citizens!"

The timing of the event allowed the new citizens to preview the newly refurbished Hall of Presidents, opening officially on July 4. The show features a newly scripted film and animatronic show, and an audio-animatronic Barack Obama.

Were you there? Send in a story of your experience!

EMMETT'S COMMENTARY: Having gone through the naturalization process myself, I must say that the ceremony is quite an emotional experience, even when performed in a less-than-regal venue. To be made a citizen right in front of the castle at Walt Disney World is surely just icing on the cake for these lucky individuals. For them, returning to Walt Disney World in the future will almost be like visiting their place of birth -- or re-birth, as the case may be. Congratulations, new citizens!
